MATAMOROS, TAMAULIPAS

Border with Brownsville, Texas

 

PROS

- Excellent visa stamping success rates in this location.

- Passports/visas are generally issued on the same day as USC interview.

- Smaller cities on both sides of the border means you're only minutes away from everything and generally less traffic at the border crossing.

- Friendly cities on both sides of the border.

- Small airports mean less waiting for TSA security.

- More affordable packages for hotel/transport.

- Airport is only 20 minutes from the border.  It takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the hotel in Matamoros from the Brownsville airport.

- 2 airports service this region.

- Houston, Texas is only 5 hours away driving.  Flying into Houston can help you save money on flights. Airport Code:  IAH.

- San Antonio, Texas is only 4 hours away driving. Flying into San Antonio can help you save money on flights.  Airport Code:  SAT.

- South Padre Island, Texas is located only 35 minutes away from Brownsville, Texas.  Spend a night or two before or after your visa stamping to make the best of the trip!

- Free parking in U.S. for USVISAMEX clients

 

CONS

- Limited arriving/departing flights from Brownsville/Harlingen, Texas means you may have to wait an additional night in Brownsville to fly back home.

- There isn't much to do in and around Matamoros between appointments for now.  This is slowly changing.

- Food options are more limited in Matamoros.

 

TIJUANA, BAJA CALIFORNIA

Border with San Diego, California

 

PROS

- More airlines service San Diego means cheaper flights and more arrival/departure flights to choose from.

- More tourist attractions means you'll have more to do outside the hotel between appointments.

- Better food variety/restaurants in San Diego/Tijuana.

- The beautiful beaches of Ensenada/Rosarito and San Diego await!

- Plenty of good hotels in and around Tijuana.

- You can take the trolley to the border

 

CONS

- Lots of traffic!  It can take you up to 1.5 hours to reach the hotel in Tijuana from the San Diego airport.

- Lots of traffic at the border crossing/I94 processing.

- More expensive overall for transportation.  Cost-of-living is higher in this region so everything else will be more expensive for the most part.

- Passports are generally issued on the day following the USC interview.
